The eThekwini Municipality council has 200 councillors. One hundred of them are elected ward councillors and the other hundred are elected to represent political parties.
The purpose of the eThekwini Municipality is to provide infrastructure, services and support. They must also make it possible for all citizens to access opportunities which will enable them to contribute owards a vibrant and sustainable economy with full employment, and thus create a better quality of life for all.
By 2020 the eThekwini Municipality aims to enjoy the reputation of being Africa’s most liveable city, where all citizens live in harmony. This vision will be achieved by growing its economy and meeting people’s needs so that all citizens enjoy a high quality of life with equal opportunities, in a city that they are truly proud of.
